Old Glory on the River

Middle of the Des Moines River just south of the Karl King Viaduct bridge

In 2004, Iowa Air National Guard veteran and founder of the Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight Ron Newsum initiated the effort to place a United States flag on the pier of the Bennett Viaduct. The flag is 15 feet by 25 feet and is maintained and replaced by the Fort Dodge Fire Department. A rock from Harlan Rogers Sports Complex was placed in the Sunkissed Meadows park to mark a clear view of the pier and Old Glory. Upon the rock is a commemorative plaque, thanking those who contributed to the construction.
