Fort Museum and
Frontier Village
The Fort Museum is housed in a stockade fort and pioneer main street. Buildings and corresponding collections include a family cabin, church, one room school house, cabinet shop, land office, general store, drug store, jail, print shop, blacksmith shop, livery stable, pottery building and tinsmith shop. Other collections include prehistoric, military, Native American, Civil War, and early Fort Dodge artifacts. One notable and unique exhibit is the Cardiff Giant, a replica of one of history's greatest hoaxes. Known for being exhibited in traveling circuses of the 1800's, the original Cardiff Giant- carved from gypsum mined in Fort Dodge- was replicated and is housed inside the Fort Museum where you can learn the whole fascinating story.
