Dodging the Ordinary in Fort Dodge, Iowa

Our small group only tipped the iceberg during our short visit, but as one of our travelers happily said, “I could live here.”

Fort Dodge is a small community. Its history dates to 1850, when the first Fort was built. The town saw much of its growth in the early part of the twentieth century. Today, it boasts multiple manufacturing companies, which brings plenty of jobs, and new construction usually means growth for a town. Read more here .

Hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking, and even OHV-ing is what I found when I visited Fort Dodge, Iowa on a FAM trip with Midwest Travel Network.

This trip was 3 full days of outdoor activities! Any outdoor enthusiast will never get bored in this Midwest area. Even though this was a sponsored trip, all opinions in this article are held only by Happy Trails Hiking.

We started our first evening at the Fort Dodge Grain Silo Mural. This 360-degree mural was created by international artist, Guido Van Helten. It shows local residents "who are part of the industrial and cultural fabric of the community." It was certainly a neat start to our visit to Fort Dodge. Read more here .

The Tallest Mural in Iowa

Nestled between the Des Moines River and a little park (Loomis Park) sits an old abandoned concrete silo - turned into a rural masterpiece on the outer edges of Fort Dodge, Iowa.
